Subaru stars

The stars in the Subaru logo represent the Pleiades star cluster and symbolize the merger of five companies to form Fuji Heavy Industries(the parent company of Subaru Corporation).

The Pleiades Star Cluster (Subaru in Japanese)

  • Name Origin: In Japanese, the word "Subaru" (昴) is the name for the Pleiades star cluster, a group of stars in the Taurus constellation also known as the "Seven Sisters" in Western astronomy.

  • Six Stars: The logo features six stars because, traditionally, only six of the cluster's main stars are easily visible to the naked eye.

Corporate Symbolism

  • Unity: The literal translation of the Japanese word "Subaru" means "unite" or "gathered together". This was a fitting name as the company was formed from the consolidation of five smaller Japanese companies in 1953.

  • Company Representation:

    • The one large star in the logo represents Fuji Heavy Industries itself (now Subaru Corporation).

    • The five smaller stars symbolize the five original companies that merged to create the new, unified entity.

The logo and name, therefore, serve as a testament to the brand's history, representing the strength and cohesion that resulted from the company's formation.
