Upgrading Ryan’s Subaru Brakes with Brembo Calipers
At Fflatfourperformance, we recently upgraded Ryan’s Subaru by replacing the original front four-pot calipers with a complete Brembo front braking setup. The upgrade included new front discs, Fab Fraction brake pads and fresh Motul brake fluid.
This combination provides improved braking performance, better consistency and increased confidence behind the wheel.
Removing the old calipers
The original four-pot calipers were removed along with the worn front discs and brake pads. While the existing setup had performed well, brake components can deteriorate over time through general wear, heat cycles and exposure to the elements.
During the removal process, the caliper mounting points, brake lines and surrounding components were carefully inspected to ensure everything was ready for the new installation.
Fitting the Brembo calipers and new discs
The new Brembo front calipers were fitted alongside a fresh set of front brake discs. Brembo calipers are well known for their strength, rigidity and ability to provide consistent braking performance.
New discs provide a clean and even braking surface for the new pads, helping the system deliver improved contact and more predictable stopping power. Correct alignment and clearance were checked before all fasteners were securely tightened.
Installing Fab Fraction brake pads
The Brembo calipers were matched with new Fab Fraction brake pads. Brake pads have a major effect on braking performance, influencing initial bite, pedal response, noise and resistance to fade.
Fitting new pads ensures the upgraded calipers and discs work together properly, rather than relying on worn or unevenly used components from the previous setup.
Refreshing the system with Motul brake fluid
To complete the upgrade, the braking system was flushed and filled with fresh Motul brake fluid. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which can reduce its boiling point and contribute to a soft pedal during hard or repeated braking.
Fresh fluid helps maintain reliable hydraulic pressure and a firmer, more consistent pedal feel. The system was carefully bled to remove any trapped air before the installation was completed.
The finished result
Ryan’s Subaru now benefits from a complete front brake upgrade, including:
- Brembo front brake calipers
- New front brake discs
- Fab Fraction brake pads
- Fresh Motul brake fluid
- Improved braking response
- Greater resistance to heat and brake fade
- A firmer and more consistent pedal
The new components will need to be bedded in correctly before the braking system reaches its full potential. Once bedded in, the upgrade should provide stronger, more reliable braking and improved confidence during everyday and spirited driving.
This was a worthwhile improvement for Ryan’s Subaru, combining quality components with careful installation to deliver better performance and reliability where it matters most.
