When Low Mileage Isn’t Always a Good Thing

This time around, we had a low-mileage Subaru Impreza GB270 in the workshop for some underbody work—and it’s a perfect example of why low mileage doesn’t always mean trouble-free.

At first glance, you’d expect a car like this to be in great condition. But as any enthusiast knows, cars that spend more time sitting than driving can develop their own set of issues—especially underneath.

Once we got it in, we didn’t hold back. The car was stripped down so we could properly assess everything, and it didn’t take long to see what needed attention.

We went ahead and replaced the hubs, backing plates, and rear control arms—key components that take the brunt of wear and exposure over time. Even with low miles, age and the elements had clearly taken their toll.

Of course, it wouldn’t leave us without a bit of our signature touch. We treated it to some proper flat-four magic, including our specialist underbody protection and rust treatment—making sure it’s not just fixed, but future-proofed.

Now, it’s back together and ready for the road again—stronger, cleaner, and far better prepared for the years ahead.

Because sometimes, it’s not about how far a car has gone…
it’s about how well it’s been looked after along the way.
