Let's Talk Subaru Coolant/ Water pumps

Subaru Coolant

Another regular conversation we have is about

Subaru green coolant, a standard green-colored coolant, was commonly used in older Subaru models and is recommended for vehicles that were originally designed to use it. It's a traditional ethylene glycol-based coolant that provides antifreeze and corrosion protection.

Why use green coolant?

  • Corrosion and rust prevention:
The green coolant contains additives that help prevent corrosion and rust from forming in the engine and radiator.

    Anti-freeze properties:
Ethylene glycol, the primary component of green coolant, has excellent anti-freeze properties, preventing the coolant from freezing at low temperatures.

    Higher boiling point:
Green coolant has a higher boiling point than plain water, which helps prevent overheating.

  • The coolant we supply and use is by Ravenol and they are the only manufacturer after subaru  it's available from .

  • We would recommend changing and flushing the coolant system every 2 years

Picture below shows what happens to your waterpump and coolant system when it's not flushed out and the wrong coolant is used ..

The blades are missing from waterpump causing overheating ..

We use  a cast impeller on our water pumps see below .
